The purpose of the MJDA is to bring together Modern Jivers, and dancers of other modern partner dances, and to further their interests wherever in the world they may be. The MJDA is independent of any dance teaching or dance venue management organisation, and is non-profit making. Although as individuals we have links with different dance organisations in the UK and Australia, we are not funded by any other organisation. Our aim is to work with any and all such groups, solely for the benefit of the dancers themselves. It is the only independent organisation focusing on Modern Jive dancers and their interests, and was created in January 2006, in recognition of a growing need for this independence. At present, the MJDA provides one service, namely a discussion forum, at
www.mjda.org/forum, and memberships are
welcomed from all dancers of modern partner dance styles – in particular Modern
Jive, West Coast Swing, Swing, Lindy Hop, Argentine Tango, Salsa, Lambada,
Ballroom and Latin American, and commercial and non-commercial dance
organisations, irrespective of affiliation. In the future, we aim to provide other services including representation of, and benefits for our members, but those services will take time to establish. For the present, while the MJDA is very young, membership of the forum will be free, but we expect that as web traffic increases, we will need to ask for a modest contribution from members to help cover our costs. Check out the forum for all MJDA news, in particular for more information about the constitution of the MJDA itself, and its members and organisers. |
